“MY GP DIAGNOSED ME WITH IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME AND PUT ME ON MEDICATION”
I had a stressful childhood and by 1995 (age 23) I was experiencing :
- Chronic back pain
- Severe headaches from neck tension (one headache even went on for a month, and was the reason I started looking for help)
- Extremely tense abdomen – difficulty eating and frequent indigestion, burping, diarrhoea and stomach pain
- Chronic post nasal drip
- A very hunched posture with curvature of the spine
- I was underweight (69kg) for my height
- Chronic anxiety and fear about the world
- Overbite of about 6mm
In the following couple of years, I consulted with a variety of practitioners and tried out a variety of therapies (hypnotherapy, aura therapy, spiritual healing, past-life regression, time-line therapy, clairvoyance, homeopathy, food combining, blood type diets, food combining diets, for-life diets, Palaeolithic diets, physiotherapy, rolfing technique, body stress release, acupuncture, Bowen technique, deep tissue massage, Alexander technique, meditation, yoga, Bach flower remedies, tarot reading, reflexology, herbalism, bio-kinesiology, body-alignment therapy, reiki, neuro-linguistic programming and aromatherapy).
My GP said that it was tension and that I should relax and take some pills to suppress stomach acid. The pills helped a bit, but stopped making a difference after a year. The various herbal remedies proved more effective.
In 1998, these additional problems presented themselves, despite the fact that I was generally beginning to feel more healthy and relaxed:
- Flat feet, and arthritic big toes
- Knee problems, with patella tracking off centre and liquid and pain under knee cap
Around 1998 I visited a podiatrist for my feet and knees and got some inner soles. After a couple of months that started hurting my knees so I got rid of them and did lots of bare foot walking. Gradually in that year, I became able to use normal shoes again without hurting my feet.
Also around 1998, I started getting Directed Pressure Point Technique. I experienced this as very effective and it brought lots of relief to me. I have since kept up with weekly sessions.
In about 2000, I started having further outbursts of acid reflux and sore stomach and diarrhoea. My GP diagnosed me with irritable bowel syndrome and put me on medication. This helped for severe outbreaks, but not the tension that was causing it. These symptoms began to reduce over the next 6 years and by 2008 I was almost free of them.
Around 2005, my big toes started getting inflamed and sore from pressure. I revisited my podiatrist for some more inner soles and he said my feet had changed so much in shape since the previous set. He made a new set of soles for me. They worked for about 6 months then started getting uncomfortable once again. I stopped using them, and my big toes feel much better nowadays.
In 2006, I experienced another 6 months of burping, acid reflux and stomach pain. I managed it with medication.
In 2006 my overbite vanished suddenly when my jaw relaxed.
In 2008, I visited an ENT specialist who diagnosed my post nasal drip as chronic hay fever. He put me on medication.
My body now compared to 1996 :-
- I am 5cm taller – when I am relaxed I am now around 6’3” tall
- My feet have developed arches
- My feet face the normal direction and not splayed outwards
- My knees are no longer painful
- My big toes are no longer painful
- I very rarely experience back pain
- I very rarely get headaches
- I can eat all foods, including those such as coffee, wheat, beer and oranges – these foods used to always give me severe indigestion and wind/ diarrhoea
- I very rarely experience indigestion, and it gets better if I simply lie down for a couple of hours and / or have some chamomile tea and or take an antispasmodic
- I have a very relaxed body by most people’s standards (I don’t have any knots in my back or neck). I have ongoing feedback about my good posture
- I am much more positive, happier and relaxed
- I now weigh 86kg, a normal weight for me, and I am happy with it
- My overbite is gone when my jaw is relaxed
But:
- I still experienced some abdominal tension, and indigestion (approx 1 day / month);
- I still experience a post nasal drip at times but am confident that this too will disappear in time as I continue to become healthier.
- I believe that my investment in Directed Pressure Point Technique has made a massive difference in my body and mind and I am extremely grateful for this.
I have recommended many people to this therapy and they have found it to be worthwhile. I intend to continue with my regular sessions.
